Announcements for Tuesday, September 6th- Friday, September 9th

School Announcements

  • No school on Monday in observance of Labor Day.

  • Vehicle ID stickers are available for students who drive to school. See Mrs. Leu in the front office.  Stickers are $1.  

 

  • Attention Jr. High students: Do you like to have fun, play games, dance, and win prizes? If this sounds like you, you are invited to “Fall Back into FUN Party, on Friday, September 16th, 2022. Tickets go on sale starting Tuesday, September 6th through Thursday the 15th at lunch for $3. If you wait, tickets will be sold at the door for $5.  BONUS! If you buy a ticket to the dance, you can purchase a ticket to the High School Homecoming game for $3. Don’t miss out and get your tickets early. 

  • The Jr High is selling Flowers of Kindness during lunch thru next week or while supplies last. You can pick from a variety of flowers and colors. Each costs $1, and you can pick a card to go with it!  All proceeds go towards the Laker Pride Incentive Fund.

 

  • Tri-Kappa Mu of LaGrange County is accepting applications for this year's Corn School Queen Competition.  Students ages 15-19 who live in LaGrange County may compete for a $1000.00 scholarship, plus awards for Miss Talent, Miss Congeniality, and the Virginia Hart-Schwinn Award for Community Service.  Applications are available at Lakeland Jr/Sr High School. 

  • Our Laker Pride Student of Excellence for next week is Peyton Waldron! Mrs. Keplinger says, "Peyton is so helpful. Whenever a student is absent, Peyton is the first person who offers to help that student get caught up on their work they missed. She helps them get any notes they missed and explains assignments to them. I appreciate her willingness to give her time to others."

    • Each week we will highlight one student that has been nominated by exhibiting one or more of the following Laker Leader characteristics: Leadership, Active Listening, Kindness, Effort, Respect, Perseverance, Responsibility, Integrity, Dependability, and Empathy.

Jr./Sr. High Clubs

  • There will be a call out meeting on Wednesday, September 7th during Advisory in room 301 for a new group. The purpose of this group is to highlight and address the unique issues facing our students who are Hispanic and to provide support and celebration to its members. See Mrs. Delagrange if you have questions.

  • All students in grades 7-12 are invited to the new club Celebrate Diversity. Every month we will get together to design, create, and decorate a big bulletin board display honoring a diverse group of Americans. We will start with Hispanic Heritage Month and go on to honor other groups, including Native Americans, Women, African Americans, Americans with Disabilities, and many more. If you like history, arts & crafts, snacks, and having fun, Celebrate Diversity would be a great after-school club for you! If you are interested, pick up a permission slip from Ms. Hockley in Room 509.

  • Any 7th or 8th grader interested in Robotics, please stop by the office and pick up an information sheet and application.  The first meeting will be September 13th. Forms will be due to Ms. Elwood at the first meeting on September 13th. Contact helwood@lakelandlakers.net with questions.

  • There will be an informational meeting for any student, Jr High and Sr High, interested in being a part of Lagrange County Teen Court on Tuesday, Sept 6th, during Advisory in Room 301. 

  • Are you interested in joining a community service and philanthropy program? Have you been looking to get more community service hours in a flexible way? Well, lucky for you the Interact club is here to help! Wednesday, September 7th after school, is the call-out for members and for people interested in officer positions. Please be in room 216 (aka the community room) at 3:05. If you have any questions, feel free to find Xai Leu or talk to our sponsor, Mrs. Hartman in the office, for more information. 

Jr/Sr High Sports

  • Softball “open fields” begin this week for non-fall sport athletes interested in improving their skills. We meet at the varsity field every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:00 through October 12. (Not on Labor Day). We hope to see familiar faces and some new ones too!

  • Lakeland Basketball Fundraiser-Schmidt/Sirk Memorial:

    • Golf Outing, Saturday, October 1st at Heron Creek, 9am start

    • 4-person teams (Scramble Format)

    • $75 per person or $300 a team. Includes, Golf, Cart, Food and Prize Pool

    • All Funds support  Boys and Girls Basketball and the Schmidt Scholarship Fund!

    • Hole Sponsors $100, $200, $500 ($500 includes Ad on Scoreboard in Gym)

  • Class of 2023 Senior Meetings during Advisory in Auditorium:

    • September 22 - Nominate for class colors, song, quote, flowers. Then vote to set. Other information for the year.

    • October 20 - Jostens Cap & Gown order information

    • February 9 - Graduation requirements and other info

    • March 16 - more regarding Graduation

    • April - sometime after spring break will be cap & gown pickup during lunch

    • April 28 - 8am Competition Gym - Class of 2023 pics plus Honors pics

    • May 24 - 8am  Competition Gym - Graduation Practice -REQUIRED TO ATTEND IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN GRADUATION

 

  • College Visits:

    • Monday - Sept 12 - during Advisory - Grace College will be here to meet with anyone that would like to learn more about their school and consider applying. (In the Guidance Office.)

  • Scholarship Postings:

  • PFW is waiving the college application fee during College Go Week (Sept. 26-30). The code is collegego2022. Find more info on the Senior Group in Schoology.

  • IUPUI also has a code to waive application fees.  It is INKELLEY. Check out the Senior Group in Schoology for more info.

  • Start applying to colleges between now and November. Stop in guidance if you have any questions.

  • Lakeland’s FAFSA night is October 12th.  Bring your (and your parents’) 2021 tax information.
